Philippine Made First Hybrid Electric Train Unveiled

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Philippine National Railways (PNR) unveiled their first Philippine made hybrid electric train. The five-car Electric Hybrid Train (EHT) is designed and developed locally that could run on standard railroad tracks.

DOST Secretary Mario Montejo, PNR General Manager Joseph Allan Dilay and PNR Chairman board of directors' Manuel Torres graced the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the PNR Tutuban Station.

The EHT has seven trains operating in Metro Manila, from Caloocan City to Alabang. And after 3 to 6 months the Electric Hybrid Trains will operates outside Metro Manila, from Tutuban to Calamba.

Hope the DOST can also develop a hybrid bus in the near future.
